Welcome to Elderfield — Foraging and Resource Collection

Luca's route for foraging and resource collection in Welcome to Elderfield.

Last updated: September 13, 2026

Quick Answer

Most pickups respawn Mondays (not billboards). Blood Moon resets mysteries. Clear farm wood/stone with Warp + bath loop for early XP.

Foraging and Resource Collection

Wooden Stick — common early forage from trees and boxes

Wooden Stick

Foraging in Welcome to Elderfield looks like a throwaway chore until you realize how much of the early economy runs through it. Bitter Herb and Red Mushroom gate your first cooking recipes, and the random junk you pull out of boxes and garbage cans quietly funds your first equipment upgrades.

I treat foraging as a scheduled route, not a wander. Below is the exact loop I run, what regenerates when, and which pickups are actually worth the inventory slot.

  • Regeneration: Most world pickups (not billboards) respawn every Monday, after bathing, or when certain events trigger regeneration.
  • Blood Moon: Sleeping through a Blood Moon also resets all mysteries — same as moon events.
  • Early farm loop: Once you have Warp from Mall F1, chop every tree and rock on Hans Farm for materials and XP. Warp home → bath → repeat. Farm enemies are mild early.
  • Garbage cans: Stock resets every Monday and Thursday at the garbage man's shop.
  • Tree cutting: Some trees require an appropriate axe before you can harvest them.
  • Priority early items: Bitter Herb, Red Mushroom.
  • Common forage/box drops: Spoiled Rations, Wooden Stick, Hot Dog, Red Mushrooms, Salt, Mysterious Meat, Cleansing Bomb, Seeker's Orb, Treasure Map, Old Talks.
  • Storage: Dump overflow into chests so your bag stays forage-ready.

What Actually Drops From Foraging

I catalog everything I pull so I know what to keep and what to sell. Here's the working list from my runs.

Item Where I Get It Keep or Sell
Bitter Herb Ground forage, wilderness around Elderfield Keep — early recipe ingredient
Red Mushroom Ground forage, trees Keep — early recipe ingredient
Spoiled Rations Boxes, garbage cans Sell unless a recipe calls for it
Wooden Stick Trees, ground Keep a few for crafting
Hot Dog Boxes, garbage cans Keep — cheap food
Salt Boxes, garbage cans Keep — cooking staple
Mysterious Meat Boxes, garbage cans Keep — cooking ingredient
Cleansing Bomb Boxes Keep — utility
Seeker's Orb Boxes Keep — utility
Treasure Map Boxes Keep — leads to loot
Old Talks Boxes Keep or sell depending on collection goals

My Foraging Route Around Elderfield

I don't roam randomly. I run a fixed loop so I hit every box and forage node before the weekly reset.

  1. Start in the wilderness around Elderfield — this is where Bitter Herb and Red Mushroom spawn most reliably for early recipes.
  2. Sweep trees first. Check each tree; if it needs an axe, mark it and come back once you have one.
  3. Hit every box scattered around the world — these are your random treasure rolls.
  4. Check garbage cans on the way through town; stock resets Monday and Thursday.
  5. Loop back to your chest and dump anything you don't need for the current recipe or craft.

Tip: My rule is simple — never leave town with a full bag. If I can't forage, I'm wasting the trip. Empty your junk into a chest before every run.

Why Inventory Space Is the Real Bottleneck

This is the part most players learn the hard way. You can't forage with a full inventory, and foraging fills your inventory fast. That's a deadlock if you don't plan for it.

  • Clear space before you leave, not after you find something good.
  • Keep one chest as a dedicated "forage dump" so you're not sorting mid-route.
  • If you're constantly full, that's your signal to look at bag upgrades before chasing more resources.

If you're hitting the cap constantly, the fix is the inventory upgrade spare bag rather than more foraging trips.

Regeneration Timing — When to Re-Run the Route

Foraging isn't a one-and-done. The world refills on a schedule, and knowing it saves you from pointless laps.

Reset Trigger What Refills
Every Monday Forageable items, garbage can stock
Every Thursday Garbage can stock (garbage man's shop)
After bathing Forageable items
Certain events Forageable items (event-driven regeneration)

Note: I plan my foraging around Monday resets. If I need a big batch of herbs for cooking, I run the route Monday morning, then again after bathing if I'm short.

What to Do With Everything You Collect

The resources feed two systems: cooking and crafting. Don't hoard blindly — route items where they belong.

  • Bitter Herb + Red Mushroom → straight into early recipes. These are the two I never sell early on.
  • Salt, Mysterious Meat, Hot Dog → cooking stock. Keep them in the fridge or a kitchen chest.
  • Wooden Stick → crafting material. Keep a small stack.
  • Cleansing Bomb, Seeker's Orb, Treasure Map → utility and loot leads. Keep until used.
  • Spoiled Rations, Old Talks → sell or stash depending on your collection goals.

Once you've got herbs banked, the natural next step is turning them into food — I cover the full recipe unlock path in welcome to elderfield cooking and recipes.

Wilderness Areas Worth Sweeping

The wilderness around Elderfield is your bread and butter, but a few spots pay off more than others.

  • Elderfield Wilderness — core foraging zone; herbs, mushrooms, boxes.
  • Old Woods — denser tree coverage; bring an axe or you'll walk past half the nodes.
  • Town garbage cans — low effort, high randomness; always worth a pass on Monday and Thursday.

Tip: When I'm in the Old Woods anyway for other objectives, I always do a forage pass. It costs nothing extra and the tree density means more Wooden Sticks per minute than anywhere else.

I've watched a lot of people burn time on foraging inefficiency. Here's what to avoid.

  • Leaving with a full bag. You literally can't forage. Clear space first.
  • Skipping garbage cans. They're free rolls and reset twice a week.
  • Ignoring trees without an axe. Mark them, don't skip the area — come back equipped.
  • Selling Bitter Herb and Red Mushroom early. You'll regret it when a recipe needs them.
  • Hoarding everything. Sort into chests so your active bag stays lean.

Wrapping Up

Foraging in Welcome to Elderfield rewards planning over wandering. Run a fixed route, respect the Monday and post-bathing resets, keep your bag lean, and bank your Bitter Herb and Red Mushroom for cooking. Do that and resource collection stops being a chore and starts being passive income.

If you're chasing specific loot leads from your forage runs, the pumpkin blast and emerald ring from smoffes guides pick up where the random drops leave off.
